This kid has no conscience

Perhaps he's a sociopath. Sociopaths are not automatically evil and nasty, many have perfectly normal and productive lives. Some go into politics...
But when they turn to crime or are afflicted with certain paraphilias, they are particularly dangerous.
No empathy whatever....

I don't think the picture was taken after the murders; more likely, it was during his previous sentence. Either way, choosing that picture seems like an unnecessary attempt to demonize him further.

Don't get me wrong; he certainly is a very sick person, and must be locked up. But society has a responsibility as well, and simply writing him off as a demon child does not absolve that. It's not like the kid wasn't know to be wrong in the head. Was anything being done to help him, or at least control him?

I agree. Someone should have made sure he got plenty of toys at Christmas and was tucked into bed every night with a warm glass of milk.

According to the comments on theat article, it was taken after the murders, when he was being led into jail

I've searched on google images and there doesn't appear to be any other picture of him online. And of course, practically everyone is posting comments about "smacking off that smug grin".
It appears that he stole his mother's car to go on his killing spree; she was worried enough to report it even though, as a parole violation, it meant him going back to jail. So he clearly already had serious problems.
But, without further evidence, any speculation about him being psychopathic/sociopathic is just that - speculation.

The picture is of him being led from jail to the courthouse for his arraignment hearing. They had video on the news as well and he is laughing and smiling the entire time like it was a big joke. Kid obviously has no remorse whatsoever.

He won't be smiling so much once he gets to his new permanent address in Ft. Madison. They'll like him a lot up there.

Agreed. Diagnosis by press release is entirely speculation.

It's also considered unprofessional for a psychiatrist to diagnose a 17-year-old with adult criteria, although that's close to the boundary, and could be debatable.

Teens and two-year-olds often come across as malignant narcissists, but it's not a personality disorder - this is a manifestation of their age.

What distinguishes somebody like this seems more about impulse control. Possibly IQ.

A 15 year old anmed randy Dobbs murdered a 20 year old married with infant girl for a joyride in her van. He was smiling like this too but not anymore. He's been in prison since oct 1989 and prison is where he'll stay. His prison pictures show him with no smile on his face at all.

Impossible to say. A calculating sociopath should at least generate a persona of remorse to influence sentencing. He's not doing that, either.

My guess would be that peer influence has led to him valuing the appearance of being tough even over influencing the sentencing. Not in his long-term interest. This suggests what we see is a deliberate persona of aloofness, regardless of his authentic emotions.

He does appear dumber than a sack of hammers.
His history looks like a litany of poorly-planned, impulsive acts.
