Ancient Egyptian City In the Grand Canyon?

An Egyptian tomb in the Grand Canyon similar to the Valley of Kings in Luxor, Egypt? An article published on the front page of the Phoenix Gazette on April 5,1909, claimed that just such an Egyptian rock-cut cave was found!

As weird as this sounds, there is a couple of possibilities...

1.) The guy who made the discovery pulled off a hoax, and people in the area liked Egyptian names...

2.) Somehow the Egyptians, and people in that area managed to cross the pacific. Sounds a bit far-fetched, but they were technologically savvy for their time and I wouldn't be suprized if they could build a decent sized boat with a lot of people on it... Plus, the Aztech have all sorts of pyramid like stuff too.

I've got out my Occam's Razor, but I'm not sure which one to shave...

3. The story is simply made up, i.e., the hoax consists solely of the newspaper article; there was no discovery at all.

I'm sure I remember seeing that when I went on the donkey tour down and back up the canyon back in the 70's! Oh wait a minute, I never rode the donkeys down in the 70s........or any other time.....must have been someone else. Never mind.

This article is from a decidedly woo source and his conclusions are based entirely on the fact that people today deny the story is true. Even so, the author actually tried to research the claims in the original 1909 article and has reported his findings:

Crazy Person with Access to a Phone said:
After speaking briefly to an operator, we were transferred to a Smithsonian staff archaeologist, and a woman's voice came on the phone and identified herself. . . . "Well, the first thing I can tell you, before we go any further," she said, "is that no Egyptian artifacts of any kind have ever been found in North or South America. Therefore, I can tell you that the Smithsonian Institute has never been involved in any such excavations." She was quite helpful and polite but, in the end, knew nothing. Neither she nor anyone else with whom I spoke could find any record of the discovery or either G.E. Kinkaid and Professor S.A. Jordan.

Since the guy concludes that the 1909 story is true, I don't know why he'd lie about the fact that his research into the story yielded nothing.
