Things you learn watching Fox News

When I'm down at my mom's Fox News serves as a kind of background noise. So while I was down there last time I was just kind of noticing little things they talked about and included in their broadcast. Things Fox News seems to take as established fact that is new to me.

Things like:

  • Greece went bankrupt because it had universal healthcare
  • Letting a transexual person on Dancing With the Stars, even though the gender thing is never mentioned on the show, will somehow cause kids to start hacking off their genitalia
  • Having Nancy Grace flash her boobs on the same show is somehow not worth mentioning
  • The EPA has killed more jobs than the recession
  • The dude that called Obama the Anti-Christ at a recent fundraiser might have been technically right but was still wrong to do it the way he did

This is an incomplete list of all the things you can learn but this was just the things they touched on (or didn't with the Nancy Grace thing) while I was watching. I must say that if this kind of misinformation can be packed into just two hours what are they talking about the rest of the time?

If I saw Nancy Grace flash her boobs, I might cut off my genitals.

Kind of sickens me how they're going after the EPA now. When I watched the CNN Tea Party debate, it was obviously sponsored by the coal industry. Every five minutes someone said something about "Clean coal and natural gas". They even had some people send in videos with questions. And the guy from Phoenix had a pathetically loaded question about "CLEAN COAL AND NATURAL GAS". I wonder how long it'll take Fox News viewers to forget EPA stands for "Environmental protection agency" and begin thinking it's some Obama-based job opening crushing machine.

Let's not forget, the ACLU is a terrorist organization.

To its credit, Fox News' Megyn Kelly stands up in support of transgender rights, defends Chaz Bono:
On "America Live," Kelly said that the argument seemed very, very dubious to her. "Do you really believe that children are going to turn transgender from watching Chaz Bono?" she asked Ablow.

Ablow said that "we kindle behavior in one another," and that it was dangerous for transgender people to be "mainstreamed and celebrated...and lifted to heroic proportions," because it could lead children down a "very torturous road."

Kelly noted that the American Psychiatric Association had given a damning verdict to his views, saying there is "no evidence" to back them up. "Aren't you being irresponsible?" she asked.

"No, what I'm doing is I'm protecting their children," he said. "There's also no evidence that watching will not cause some problems for your kids in terms of their sexual identities."

"It is a recognized disorder!" Kelly said, citing another psychiatrist who vehemently criticized Ablow. Ablow criticized the APA in response.

"I think [viewers] get that our children are no more likely to turn transgendered from watching Chaz Bono than they are to turn gay from watching 'Will and Grace.' You either are or you're not." As Ablow protested, Kelly cut him off. "There's so much hate for gays and lesbians and transgendered people," she said. "...You seem to be adding to the hate."

Did they really say the Greece thing?

'Cause that's really stupid.

Pretty much. "If we don't cut our spending--and especially if we don't cut Obamacare, we will end up like Greece--bankrupt!"

ETA: The thought is not original with FoxNews, it's pretty much the received wisdom among a certain segment. This article has been widely picked up by the conservative blogs.

While I doubt a transexual person on Dancing With the Stars will turn anyone gay, the existence of Dancing With the Stars might turn some fabulous.

Will and Grace, on the other hand...

And there's no evidence that watching FoxNews will not cause your IQ to drop 50 points. Maybe he should be protecting the adults.

I think we can agree seeing Nancy Grace boobage ought to count as some sort of calamity.

Evidence, I mean other than your opinion that it was "obvious"?

Just gut feeling. Every other commercial was about coal and natural gas, so I assume that they paid money to get those commercials. That and the loaded question, the recent tea party pseudobattle over the EPA somehow stopping jobs, ect.
