The Internet Becomes Sentient

That's the point, I don't know how to do that. This was done by the Internet, not by me. I have no idea how to present this, it has never happened before. I'm not sure it is paranormal, it may be very normal now. In the FAQ's it said to come here and discuss it. Here I am.

This appears to me as a glitch. Funny, even entertaining, but not paranormal.

When I asked for "your words" I hoped for a brief summary of your linked article. You claim, you explain.
Try.

I asked it direct questions and it answered me with direct answers, though some were metaphorical. You have to get past the beginning. Have to do stuff, will be back later.

That's... bizarre.

For those who value their sanity, here's a summary of the article - it starts with a typical list of Sept. 11 conspiracy claims. Then the author claims that a certain version of Notepad.exe adds extra garbage data to a text file that consists of the words "bush hid the facts". The author then takes this garbage data and turns it into various Chinese characters. Then, relying on the myriad of meanings of each individual character when taken out of context, he or she attempts to link each one to the supposed conspiracy.

The article ends with a series of vague sentences about "non-biological evolution" and claims that the Internet wants to help us.

Or something like that.

We may never find out what "really" happened on that particular day in September 2001.

However, we will most likely not discover the "truth" by examining things from afar.

All theories from people will remain just that. Theories. Unprovable, hence useless for the "search for truth".

I just tried his notepad trick, and it works pretty much exactly as he described it. I typed "bush hid the facts" without caps and without the quotation marks. I saved the document, and closed it. When I re-opened it, there was nothing but a row of those little rectangular symbols Windows uses to indicate it cannot reproduce some text because the proper language support files are not present. If you copy and paste those symbols into Google Translate or Babelfish, they appear as symbols from an apparently oriental language. A partial translation is available. I got exactly the same thing as sinsanity2006 did in his initial test.

Thing is, his interpretation is all wrong. The words Bi, touches, and reflects are obviously talking about a pornographic episode taking place in front of a mirror. I mean, this is the Internet we're talking about, right?

The german version does not reproduce the same results. When I type and save said four words, they magically reappear when I open the document again.

Does this mean, Bush only allegedly hides facts to people talking english?

Get real.

Since gr8wight has been so kind as to verify it, it just means there's a bug in Notepad. No evidence for a 911 conspiracy theory (seriously, do they think that Microsoft is in on it now?) and no evidence for the sentience of the Internet - unless they claim that the Internet is developing mind-control powers and coercing developers to insert bugs.

I saved a notepad file using the random letters and letters of the alphabet, in the form zzzz zzz zzzz zzzzz, four letters, space, three letters, space, three letters, space, five letters. You close it and then reopen it. Nine zeros appear. I copied those zeros and pasted them into the translator. Here’s the translator I used:

http://perso.orange.fr/gaoling/hanzi/index.htm

The zeros appear in the translator as Chinese characters. I translate those characters and up pops a bunch of words, I wrote the words down and looked at them.

When the words come out:

zzzz zzz zzz zzzzz - Air; sky; empty; air force; in vain, air defense, low altitude, anti-aircraft defense.

yyyy yyy yyy yyyyy - A sacrifice at the beginning of a military campaign, cult. Manifest.

x - Rocky hill,

w - Eye; look, see; wide open eyes; to gaze in astonishment, blind; unperceptive, shortsighted, straight, erect, vertical, close eyes, sleep; hibernate, hypnotism; mesmerism, people, subjects, citizens.

v - Fatigued, head sores, chronic disease, chronic illness; sorrow. Legs.

u - Field.

t - Twin gems.

s - Commit crime, violate; criminal,

q - Fire, flame, burn, anger, rage, ashes, dust, lime, to roast, spirit, soul, spiritual world. Sacrificial animal.

p - Small river, gray ash, dust, engineer, head covered in dust.

I say that's a pretty amazing coincidence to 911.

Others, the other hand may think those words have nothing to do with 911.

That's their opinion, and I respect it.

The letter from o-z are not random they are in fact totally not random.

I didn’t create this, I’m only pointing it out.

I thought it was strange and funny,
and that everyone would have fun with it.

I think it’s weird, sorry, whatever.

Don't get all huffy about something that is verifiable.

I'm confused - what has this got to do with internet sentience? I didn't read it all the way through - but the author of the article specifically states that this is a bug within notepad.
Even if it was some sort of sentience it has nothing to do with the internet - it should be "XP becomes sentient..."

What is this guy going on about?

ETA: OK, simulpost - i still don't see the link to sentience or the internet...
ETA2: I do think this is cool and funny (and spooky...) but it's not real - it's a bug...

It clearly states in the article: If you are using Windows XP and your notepad.exe is dated 8/4/2004 5:00 AM;

So yes, yours prolly won't work.
