The Ego

Is there anything Alpha1 HAS communicated effectively?

Well it certainly isn't helped by the modus operandi that's been employed so far:

Step 1: Choose a topic one knows nothing about
Step 2: Pontificate
Step 2a:Quote yourself as a reference
Step 3: Draw self-congratulatory conclusion

You forgot the alfa1 defining step, step 2A:Pontificate while liberally and enthusiastically quoting oneself

A lot of Great Thinkers have tried to define the Ego, but without success.

My theory explains Ego does not exist!

If it can't be defined, why are you even talking about it?

If it exists, then any claim of that existence is going to include some sort of definition of what "it" is.

When Freud made up that word, he said (I paraphrase), "There's this theoretical construct called Ego. This is what it is." In other words, he defined it. That's not to say that it really exists in any meaningful way, just that the word was defined by its coiner. People can go around redefining it all they want, but that's just word games.

I think you like word games. Have fun.

So I watched the video presentation.

And, I find it somehow less than compelling. Even if I accept the arbitrariness of the formula, its components and its values, I still have to ask: "What does it explain or predict?"

:boggled: and

I don't know how I missed that! Fixed.
S'okay! When opening up another thread by alfa1 is precisely like getting slapped in the face with a wet fish (carp, I believe), it's easy enough to forget parts of the main point.

I'm not really up on cutting-edge thinking in the realm of psychology, but aren't terms like "Ego", "Id", and "Superego" rather passé'?
I don't hear contemporary neuroscientists using them....

You forgot a quote... "Ego is not a dirty word." - Skyhooks

I started playing your video, and was convinced that it was a complete waste of time. But just as I was about to close the browser tab, up came your consciousness formula. Thanks for that, I needed a good laugh.

But why did you make the equation so very, very tiny? It's partially illegible.

But I look forward to seeing you attempt to explain the theory behind your equations, assuming you actually have a theory to explain.

I'm sorry, I couldn't pay attention. I was a bit too overwhelmed by how awesome I am.
