i thought what was being debated is weather or not people are causing global warming, but many americans seem to believe that the debate is about the existance of global warming

it seems like its gonna become a big pollitical issue, with this al gore movie, but im under the impression that bush believes in global warming, he just doesnt feel there is sufficinet evidence that the actions of people are causing it

is the al gore movie an attempt to prove we are causing global warming, or is it just attempting to prove that it exists?

I haven't been convinced of anything yet.

Considering his previous positions regarding environmental issues, I would suspect it will be an attempt to make people believe that humans are destroying the Earth.

I also suspect that, like "Earth in the Balance", it will not convince many people of anything.

I saw a documentary this weekend where they presented a bunch of evidence that global warming was a real phenomenon, then concluded: "There's no longer any doubt that human activity is causing global warming."

Most viewers, I'm sure, would miss this sort of non-sequitur. As intended.

I saw a similar one a couple of weeks ago (I think it was Panorama).

They so continually switched the concepts of global warming and human-activity-caused global warming that the whole programme was utterly meaningless and very misleading.

Regardless of what anyone believes, statements like "Global warming is real so we must cut down on our reliance on fossil fuels" are just not helpful.

The earth is a dynamic system and it's climate has and will change regardless of whether humans are on it.
What we need to find is what impact humans actually are having beyond the planet's own natural cycles.

And it's all stupid anyway - there are loads of reasons to want to not fill the air, soil and water with pollutants. Can't it just be accepted that polluting the world is kind of a bad idea so we shouldn't do it, and SEPERATELY think it might be a good idea to find out what mankind's effect on the earth's climate is.

I almost feel it has become like some people are arguing that global warming might not be caused by humans so it's okay to treat the planet how we like.

A planet that is exactly the same temperature but covered in toxic water isn't really particularly desirable either.

Are you familiar with Mr. Gore's evidence for Manbearpig? Quite compelling.
