The Bottom Line, the Greenwich Village music club that was a launching pad for the likes of Bruce Springsteen and other rock stars, shut its doors on Thursday after almost three decades as a music industry landmark, its lawyer said yesterday.

Will try to find a list of all the musicians that played there. I used to enjoy just reading the ad in the Village Voice and wishing I could be there.

This has been coming for a long time. Apparently, too many people were just reading the ads and not actually going to the club. ;)

At least there's alternatives in NYC. Here in Chicago, we're losing small rock clubs and can't replace them because of a moratorium on new liquor licenses (reason #1 I hate Mayor Daley!). When the legendary club Lounge Ax lost it's lease in January 2000 it couldn't relocate because of this moratorium. And it's bottom line (excuse the pun!) was in the black. Only way to get a liquor license now in Chicago is to serve >50% food. Assinine requirement for a rock club.
