Texas AG admits Trump would have lost had they not interfered in the election

I'm not sure this really deserves its own thread, but the threads that it would have fit in have been closed with links to continuations in the conspiracy theory section, so here we are.

https://www.newsweek.com/texas-ag-s...ocked-mail-ballots-applications-being-1597909

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, a Republican, said former President Donald Trump would have lost in Texas in the 2020 election if his office had not successfully blocked counties from mailing out applications for mail-in ballots to all registered voters.

Harris County, home to the city of Houston, wanted to mail out applications for mail-in ballots to its approximately 2.4 million registered voters due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the conservative Texas Supreme Court blocked the county from doing so after it faced litigation from Paxton's office.

"If we'd lost Harris County—Trump won by 620,000 votes in Texas. Harris County mail-in ballots that they wanted to send out were 2.5 million, those were all illegal and we were able to stop every one of them," Paxton told former Trump adviser Steve Bannon during the latter's War Room podcast on Friday.

"Had we not done that, we would have been in the very same situation—we would've been on Election Day, I was watching on election night and I knew, when I saw what was happening in these other states, that that would've been Texas. We would've been in the same boat. We would've been one of those battleground states that they were counting votes in Harris County for three days and Donald Trump would've lost the election," the Republican official said.

So stopping an activity which would have led to an illegal and patently wrong result is now itself considered ' wrong ' .

Some Mothers do have 'em .
Oh come off it, Texas Republicans have made their state the most difficult state to cast a mail-in ballot, and Paxton pretty much spelled out why that is: To preserve the GQP hegemony and prevent a voting result that would bear any resemblance to the actual political views of the residents of the state.

Did you read the rest of the article? He's lying. They weren't trying to send out ballots. They were trying to send out applications for mail-in ballots. And there was nothing illegal about it.

Remember: even Trump outright admitted that Republicans wouldn't win if elections were fair.

How is sending a Registered Voter an application to apply for a mail-in ballot illegal?

How do you know that a vote will be illegal before it is cast?
I guess authoritarians like Monica prefer Politicians to do the voting for the citizenry.

Oh hey, we have a new pro Jim Crow poster here. I suspect you'll let your mask slip very soon, but in the meantime I see that your here, and offer you nothing.

As to the AG: I'm not sure what internal data he's looking at, but it does explain their over-the-top desperate voter suppression activities both last year (remember the farcial "1 drop-off box per county" thing?) and going forward where they're clamoring to stop black people in particular from voting as much as possible - but not doing anything about that power grid that froz over a wfew months ago and did tremendous damage)

Please cite the Texas statute you claim Harris County was going to violate.

Putatively state election law when the state supreme court said it violated it. If you want me to take the position that it doesn't, you will have to convince the Texas supreme court before trying to convince me. My time is too short to entertain every variation of legal interpretation.

Cut through all bleating and whining and you are left with a very simple proposition --- presently the mail ballot system is open to a myriad ways to cheat .
And as for the integrity of Voter Registration -- the term ' crap' springs to mind .

And the cheats are out there . Big time .

The method is unfit for purpose .

End of . Simples .

Your proposition now needs to be supported by evidence for others to consider it. That is how this works.

Fact is, several states have relied on mail-in voting as their primary voting method for years without incident, while the last major voting fraud scandal was done by a republican operative in North Carolina, Ms. Segregation Forever..

Both Democrats and Republicans will cheat and steal; we're sick of it, which is why we need someone honest like Trump.

And yet, Monica, no evidence of any widespread voting fraud from mail-in ballots (or any other method of voting) has been produced by anyone despite repeated recounts overseen by Republicans and over 50 suits brought by Trump and/or Trump supporters. Every single one of their claims has been debunked. But you just keep on drinking that 'alternative facts' Kool Aid if you're that desperately thirsty to believe. Thankfully, most Americans prefer to live in reality whether they're always happy or not with that reality.

It is not. It has been in place in one form or another since the Civil War. Several states have it as the default, such as Utah. Funny I never hear anyone whining about Utah.

Wrong. Couldn't be more wrong. The only cheats are Republicans, who not only cheat in elections (in thankfully small numbers) but do their best to restrict voting of anyone they don't like.

....

On what basis do you make that claim? Be specific.

It's pretty much a given that whatever party s in power will jigger things to its own benefit. Democrats in New York legislature defunded the group that was to oversee redistricting to prevent partisan gerrymandering. Republican states gerrymander to group high concentrations of democrat voters together leading to more republican majority districts.

As for Trump, it's pretty obvious that the push to reduce mail-in balloting was to take advantage of the skew in covid-19 risks between Republican and Democrat voters. Had Republican voters been more wary of getting covid going out to vote it would have been the Democrats that would oppose mail-in ballots.

The first principle in politics is to get elected. Fairness/equity simply isn't a factor. Some are more honest about that. Sen. Graham for instance, has been open about that goal.

.....

Since I don't know any different, I'm willing to presume that current Texas law limits sending out applications for mail ballots. The important fact is that a senior Repub official admitted that if every Texan who wanted to vote was able to do so, Democrats would have won the election. If anybody's stealing the elections, it's the Repubs.

Instead of mailing out actual applications, election officials could surely have sent out instructions for obtaining a mail ballot. It's hard to believe any law prohibits distributing information.

And yet, except for a rare case, months of pro-Dump minions searching found no such illegal voting.
