Tehran Times: Iran's president is a swine

A Danish "artist group" (whatever that is) has managed to get this advertisement printed in the state controlled newspaper Tehran Times in Iran. Under the picture of Mahmoud Ahmedinejad there are five sentences apparently supporting the official Iranian view of things. But if you look at the first capitalized letter of each sentence.... :)

I just wish they hadn't signed themselves as "Danes for World Peace".

That sounds too funny to be true. I hope it is true!

It's very subtle, but if this was deliberate, maybe it will get more attention in other papers and forums, which would be awesome.

I have a strange feeling that the Tehran Times will be looking for a new editor by the end of the week.

Oh, it is entirely deliberate. The reason I know about this is because I just read an article in the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten where the spokesman for the group describes what they did. The group is called "Surrend" and has apparently done similar stunts in other countries.

ETA: Here is their (pretty lousy) Danish homepage. Apparently they have done similar stuff in Serbia, Belarus, Ankara, Poland, Sri Lanka and the Færoe Islands.

The Færoe Islands? Why pick on them?
Because the Færoese are still a very anti-gay community. The Surrend group apparently got an advertisement printed which said (to effect): "I'm a Faroise, hence I'm a closetgay!"

By 2008,
It will soon happen for
Those of us who
Can't wait for
Hillary!

(Get it?) :D

You know there was a time when people trying to cause international incerdents could be expected to act with some maturity.

Please,
everyone:
no
deviance
against
normal
typing;
should be "We, also, are tired of Bush".
Art, a pendant is a piece of jewelry, a pedant is someone who obsesses over minor academic points.

You'd have done better to try something like:

Please
Eliminate
Deviance
Against
Normal
Typing

But first, you have to know what word you are trying to use. ;)

DR

You know, if I had seen the article without DD's commentary, I would have thought the advertisement was calling Bush a swine, not Ahmedinejad. The Danes really need to hone up on their comic tweaking of Iran. Maybe they could take a cue from people who are actually funny

;)

I would like to get a new expression into our common language like "Catch-22," or, "It's all good." So here it is...

"That will go over like a gay bar in the Færoe Islands."
