On my MSN home page there is an article about teachers bullying a student so badly that he had to transfer to another school. He sued and won.

The teachers accused him of being bi saying he "swang both ways". He did a report on Abe Lincold and they said he had a "thing for older men". His car was a ford probe and they said this was the perfect vehicle for a gay boy. He asked to go to the bathroom and they asked him if he was going to try to have sex with someone in there.

I mean these are teachers. Youd expect this from immature students but not a teacher. His fellow students picked up on it and he had to leave the school. I'm glad he won his lawsuit.

The word "unacceptable" seems inadequate. These people should permanently lose their teaching certificates.

Um, that is sexual harrasment for sure. Fairly tolerated unfortunately in many schools districts.

Looks like they have been put on leave and people are saying Alex Merritt lied, figures, the courts will try to sort it out.

The article hinted at the possibility of a different version of the story, told by other kids in the classes, but did not actually quote anything. Seems a little biased.

Is it wrong I was thinking of the deep south when I read the OP?

I'm not surprised that teachers are bullies though. I've seen it myself. Usually those teachers were also coaches...

There was a well-circulated article years ago about teachers mocking a student's essay on Hamlet.

WILLIAMSPORT, PA—A 10th-grader's hilariously inept essay on Hamlet was circulated in the Williamsport West High School faculty lounge Monday, eliciting mockery and bemused head-shaking from the teachers.

Social-studies teacher Dave Archuleta takes his turn reading aloud from the student's essay.

Written by hard-working but "rather thick" student Erin Grupman for Beth Parker's English class, "The Character Of Hamlet In William Shakespeare's Play Hamlet" kept the teachers thoroughly entertained during their lunch hour.

"'Hamlet is a character in a tragedical play of the same name, Hamlet, which was written by William Shakespeare, and Hamlet also stands as the protagonist of the play,'" Parker, 39, solemnly read over the laughter of her colleagues. "Wait, wait, shut up, it goes on: 'Hamlet, who is portrayed here as a very emotional soul, is a daring, brave character, who some believe has a bad temper.' I would say Erin is definitely on to something here."

Consider the "brilliant" quality of these insults, I think somebody has been teaching high school waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long.

Unbelievable.

I wouldn't expect this behavior from the vast majority of high school students this boy's age! I might not even expect it from middle school students!!

Sixteen year olds are too old for this! Thirteen year olds are too old for this! Let alone their teachers!

Good thing he won. Good for him.

The biggest bully I had for a teacher was the nun I had in second grade.

She was big and intimidating, physically abusive, and would then taunt and humiliate you. All the characteristics of a big old bully.

I had a bully in Jr High who told my mother to her face during parent teacher night that she felt sorry for her having a disabled daughter like me. She openly gossiped about me to other students, hating the way, because I was a bit slower on the up tick, that I slowed the class down.

Irony here is that I was the first of an eventual flood of mainstreaming disabled kids from 'special' schools.:shark:

The biggest bully instructor I ever had was a professor in college (which I supposed made it OK). One day he asked, "What's the difference between men and women?" An Asian girl provocatively answered, "Women have breasts." He answered, "Hell, mine are bigger than yours." He also called some girls beautiful because they were and ragged on one person (a man, so I guess that made it OK) who said was "as ugly as a pig" (which was kind of true, but still way out of line).
