It's that time of year again. Ghosts, goblins and other spooky characters come out from the shadows and into our everyday lives.

For most people, the thrill lasts for a few weeks each October. But for true believers, the paranormal is an everyday fact, not just a holiday joke. (snip)

We are fighting against our own brains. And I still have to wonder why religion isn't classified in this (okay, I don't really wonder, but I think it should be).

I found this most disturbing (emphasis mine):
There is no hard data on how common it is to believe in the paranormal, which Bader and co-author Carson Mencken define as beliefs or experiences that are not fully acceptable by science or religion.

Like I said, shouldn't religion be in the mix of "childish superstitions" as well? It really has no place as a source of explanations in the world, just a justification for silly beliefs...

Here's one quote from the article that I have no trouble believing:

Unmarried white men are most likely to believe in UFOs.

That's the way I've always thought of it.

ETA Since my deconversion.

Everyone believes in UFOs. There's been a thread pretty much trying to hammer this point into someone's skull for about a year now.

I wonder, could it be instead that guys who believe in UFOs are having trouble finding chicks?

It could also be that guys who believe in UFOs,and are having trouble finding chicks, use that belief as a come-on to chicks who believe in UFOs ,who find it difficult to get a guy interested in them ,because of their belief in UFOs...makes perfect sense...

I just had a funny thought. Isn't it strange how people who claim to believe in UFO (unidentified flying object) are the same ones who must immediately identify them (as ships of space aliens)?

Geez, don't you know that popularity is an important tool in judging whether a claim is true or not.
