Does anyne know whether there are real health differences between the "white death" fully refined variety of sugar and the range of brown sugars?

Just to add: one white sugar is also called "sulphur free sugar".

Sorry, Zep already provided the link.

One snip from that link;

"Immune function

Nearly all forms of sugar (including honey) interfere with the ability of white blood cells to destroy bacteria...."

I think the 'sulphur-free' sugar is a reference to the practice of bleaching sugar by exposure to SO2. The manufacturers of this product are probably claiming that it is refined, rather than bleached, white sugar.

(Can anyone tell me how to do subscripts in the new forum so I can type SO2 properly?)

Definition of brown sugar as per the link provided by zep;

Brown sugar is made by adding molasses to white sugar.

I think of we add health benefits of molasses to sugar--it may be helpful.

I am not sure if brown sugar is some unrefined sugar or molasses is added to white sugar.

re: Sulpher Free Sugar:

Molasses is l-oa-oa-oaded with sulpher. I'd guess that "sulpher free" means they are trying to make their highly refined, pure, white sugar sound special. Like sulpher is supposed to be bad? only for the chemical paranoid !

According to the Wikipedia article, the bleached variety has a habit of 'unbleaching' and has a short shelf life, so there might be reason for manufacturers to claim that their sugar was refined, rather than bleached.

Giving details about the sulphurless sugar, he said that it was healthiest and purest form of sugar and 99.5 percent pure. He added that while other sugar used sulphur dioxide for bleaching and washing it where as the DSM used specially imported chemicals and resins to clean the sugar.

Someting from the manufacturer is mentioned on above link about sulphuless sugar.

Can anyone explain effect of sulphur on our bodies or sulphur/sulphuric acid cycle in our bodies?

Sure Kumar.

Sulphur is what we pathology scientists call a 'vampiriser'. Slow accumulation of sulphur over a lifetime causes your body to become undead. During expiration, when cellular senescence is accelerated due to hypoxia, vampirised cellular masses can be sustained by ingested sanguinous vitae. The sulphur has the added problems of making solid organic matter combustable when expsed to shorter-wavelength EM spectrum radiation, and reactive to extracts from the onion family, particularly the species Allium sativum.

Now, Kumar, this could have been easily Googled. It took me just several minutes to come up with this.

Any other questions you have I'd be happy to help with.

Thanks, sorry, but I need to know more about sulphur cycle in our body.

3 moles were digging in a field of sugar cane. The first 2 moles stuck their heads out of the top of their molehill, and took a deep breath of fresh air. The first mole said - "I smell sugar cane." The second mole said "So do I." The third exclaimed "All I can smell is molasses!"
