Students for Academic Freedom

Promise that link's not a trap that results to 50 pop-up ads for goat sex videos?

While I have little sympathy for most of the academic blowhards that they criticize, their "solution" seems to be setting up a zillion government committees and rules to monitor what the professors say, with the power to fire or sanction those who act or speak in ways they don't like.

This isn't "academic freedom", but the exact opposite.

By the way, once more my hypothesis holds true: when some organization has nice words like "freedom", "democracy", "liberty", etc. in their titles, it is almost always an organization that's actually directed to taking away the rights from somebody they don't like.

Interesting, what are the names of other organizations that have the words "freedom", "democracy" or "liberty" in their titles?

I'd like to test your hypothesis. :)

Off the top of my head, I can only think of the ACLU, and they definately fit your hypothesis.

People for the American Way doesn't fit that hypothesis. They don't have any of those keywords in their title but act as expected.

I think the ACLU shouldn't be painted so broadly anymore. This is an organization which has gone out of its way in the past few years to get more people involved with different interpretations of privacy and such.

Sure, you still get a screwy lawsuit in some area but I think that is becoming the exception more and more.

If they continue on their current path, I might be a "card carrying member" (infamous Bush I mud sling) in a few years.

Sadly, I cannot say the same for the NAACP. I thought Mfume would bring that organization into line but I still see a bit much of things that ring of pure idiocy.

The "Electronic Freedom Foundation" has freedom in the title but its really a crackpot group of reactionaries who gained false prominence through the VA Software tech news outlets.
