Yes, somehow Project Censored already knows what big stories the media are going to ignore next year; must be because they didn't give those stories more coverage this year. And in fact, that seems to be their definition of "censored"--ignored.

The #2 "censored" story of 2007 is a claim by "journalist" Jason Leopold that Halliburton was selling nuclear secrets to Iran. Given that Jason Leopold's big scoop this year was that President Bush's advisor Karl Rove had been indicted by a grand jury on charges of perjury and lying to investigators (which indictment never happened), ignoring Leopold may be a smart move on the part of the media.

Checking in at #18 is Steven Jones. Apparently the extensive coverage that Jones and the rest of the 9-11 Denial industry got in 2006 concerns Project Censored. Stories in Time, US News and World Report, Vanity Fair and other outlets such as Fox News wasn't enough?

Research into the events of September 11 by Brigham Young University physics professor, Steven E. Jones, concludes that the official explanation for the collapse of the World Trade Center (WTC) buildings is implausible according to laws of physics. Jones is calling for an independent, international scientific investigation “guided not by politicized notions and constraints but rather by observations and calculations.”

They repeat some of the more ridiculous claims:

# No steel-frame building, before or after the WTC buildings, has ever collapsed due to fire. But explosives can effectively sever steel columns.
# WTC 7, which was not hit by hijacked planes, collapsed in 6.6 seconds, just .6 of a second longer than it would take an object dropped from the roof to hit the ground. “Where is the delay that must be expected due to conservation of momentum, one of the foundational laws of physics?” Jones asks. “That is, as upper-falling floors strike lower floors—and intact steel support columns—the fall must be significantly impeded by the impacted mass.

And get this one: Apparently Project Censored is already buying into the Star Wars Beam Weapon:

Steel supports were “partly evaporated,” but it would require temperatures near 5,000 degrees Fahrenheit to evaporate steel—and neither office materials nor diesel fuel can generate temperatures that hot. Fires caused by jet fuel from the hijacked planes lasted at most a few minutes, and office material fires would burn out within about twenty minutes in any given location.

They also apparently aren't up on the latest; they mention Jones's membership in the "Scholars" without noting that he has been expelled from that august fellowship.

The real story is how Pluto lost his dog rating.

By the way, I think Project Censored gave Alex Jones's "analysis" of the Patriot Act a second place in some contest a few years ago. So they know what's really going on.
