...can trigger hallucinations. This is based on a study in Psychiatry Research on the research of Giovanni Caputo, who gathered 40 people in a poorly lit room and had half of them do the eye-stare while the other half stared at walls while sitting back-to-back.
Afterwards those staring eye-to-eye said time got slower, they felt spacey and experienced strange hallucinations. It's believed to be due to an effect called Troxler's Fading, the effect brought on by staring at a single point for a long time

Warning: if you do this you do so at your own risk. Neither I nor (I assume) the ISF takes any responsibility for what happens.

I've not heard of this with staring into somebody else's eyes, but I believe that it's long been established that staring into your own eyes in a mirror in a poorly-lit environment will cause hallucinations after 5 minutes or so.

How about staring at a monitor all day? Hmm, maybe I'm on to the cause if all the internet craziness, eh Kumar?

I remember staring into a young woman's eyes, and hallucinating that she would always love me, and I her.

The phenomenon is repeatable too. N=several. :o

Sounds like hypnosis. Next surf by I''ll try the wiki link.
