McAffee has recently added a Spyware function to it's anti-virus software. I ran a scan the other day and supposedly deleted the spyware it found. This morning when I ran a supplemental check it found all the spyware In my "RECOVERED" folder and when I tried to delete it I got a "protected disk" warning or some such crap.

I haven't run Spybot because the last time I did (and whatever other actions I might have mistakenly taken) my OS crashed and I'm a little ambivalent about doing so.

Any advice for ridding spyware from my RECOVERED folder or whether Spybot will kill spyware that McAffee apparently cannot?

I'm pretty sure spyware in your recovery folder is a non-issue unless you actually ever need to use System Restore. It can't go active until it's actually an active part of the system, and the Restore files are cut off from everything else.

Just remember to use spyware-deletion tools again if you ever use System Restore and it shouldn't be a problem.
