I know it is a bit early to think about TAM, but the South Point just e-mailed me regarding a 72-hour sale starting today with $35 per night rates. If you are planning on going to TAM, it wouldn't hurt to start watching their website for these sales. IIRC, they have at least one a month and are often the best deal around, especially if you are planning on coming in early and/or staying a day or two after.

It's never too early! I am also thinking, a little, about TAMs 10 through 12, right now!

It might not be a bad idea to watch for sales.

Though, as you point out, they are hardly a rarity.

Hooray for the fantastic deals at South Point! I'd not have been able to go to TAM 8 were it not for the room sales (and a bit of luck with airfare).

Did anyone get a suite at the last TAM? How was it? My GF will probably be with me this time, and we're wondering if these sales also apply to a suite.

I've never had a suite at TAM, but in my opinion, getting a super nice room wouldn't really be worth it to me because I hardly ever spend any time in my room during TAM.

Good point. However, part of the reason that I'm curious is that we both like to cook. That's not really possible in the normal room. It might be fun to have a (not at all formal) dinner party in the suite. Assuming that anyone is up for that.

Well aren't you little miss special ....being sociable and having friends and all.

The suites at the South Point have kitchens??

If they do, I'll sign up for dinner. :D

If you're obnoxious like me, you'll book a room now and then make a new reservation and cancel the old one every time they have a sale that beats the rates of the previous sale.

Of course, like me, you'll also run the risk of accidentally showing up in Vegas with three room reservations.

I once showed up somewhere (Omaha, maybe) with 9 cars reserved from Budget. When I made the reservation, it kept timing out, and I could never see where it reserved a car. And I never got an email. It finally worked, so I knew I had 1 car, but not 9. They assumed i really didn't want 9 cars, so it wasn't an issue.

It's nice when they figure out on your behalf what you really want. I had to fess up at the South Point registration desk when I got there:

Them: I see you've reserved three non-smoking rooms with us.

Me: Er...I just want one. The cheapest one.

LOL! I thought your example was made up! :)

But then again, you are blond.

:duck:

The rates on this current sale aren't exceptionally good (compared to other sales we saw last year), but... I went ahead and booked anyway. As Saganite said, it's easy to cancel and rebook as better deals come along. I think I did that three times for TAM 8.

I went to a live podcast recording in one of the suites, and it did have a smallish kitchen.

Of course, I hadn't slept in about 36 hours at that point, so there's a small chance that I was hallucinating :)

Some of the suites have bars that could be used as kitchens in a pinch, but others do not.

I'd recommend jumping on the $35 rate as soon as possible. If the economy improves or another convention comes into town that same week, you might not be able to get that rate close in.

I think the $35 was for next week. I only say $65 - $80. Super cheap, by any standard, except for the Southpointe.

Yes, they're offering a range of rates on various days up until Oct. 2011. So it's not that cheap during TAM yet, but the current rate is still about 1/3 off the regular rate (. the Monday-Thursday before TAM are $45, though, if you're getting in early; the week after is $50, if you're staying late.
