Some Older Conspiracies

the Vietnam war was fought to preserve the monopoly of the world heroin market by Aristotle Onassis

Class!!

I wonder if Tam O'Shanter is a secret expose of devil worshipping Illuminati then>

One of the very first conspiracy theories that i can recall was when I was in junior high in the very late sixties. We were debating the Vietnam war with a history teacher. I can remember my older sister in high school relaying to me that the battlefield news films of that era were in actuality staged events. I believed it for a couple months back then.

I think the first CT I ever heard about was the Paul is dead nonsense. I thought it was funny how John even acknowledged it with that line in Glass Onion (Here's another clue for you all, the walrus was Paul...). I didn't fall for it, but I was amazed at how many people did.
The CTs change, but the reasoning stays the same.

Maybe it's along the lines of the "how could this happen?" JFK thing. How could the guy who'd written Here, There and Everywhere; For No One; and Eleanor Rigby in 1966 be suddenly writing stuff like When I'm 64 a year later?

Yes, I do have my tongue slightly in my cheek here...

Well in Australia, the disappearence of the then Prime Minister Harold Holt has been a fertile field. The dismisal of the Whitlam Gov in the mid 1970's alos lled to a lot of conjecture about US gov interference and NWO stuff

That was my epiphany in CT. I had been a believer, of sorts, in a lot of urban legend nonsense. We got so into the Paul thing for about 48 hours that it was the only thing talked about. Then the guy shows up on TV! The "believers" were reduced to coming up with a "two Oswalds" theory that was just so absurd that you couldn't take it seriously. From that day on, I began to question all UL's. From there, it was a small step to battling the conpiraloons!

i remember, too many years ago, my mother (or my father, i can't remember which for certain) telling me that Winston Churchill had advanced warning of the pearl harbour attack but failed to warn the USA because he was desperate for "the yanks to join in"

also the disapearance of Lord Lucan in the '70's, my mother is still convinced that he was helped to escape justice (he was the prime suspect in a murder case) by the UK royal family. i've always thought there could possibly be a grain of truth somewhere in that.

See I don't believe that's true, but you could at least understand how it might happen. Britain, really in the sh***, Churchill desperate for help sacrifices a hundreds of American lives to save 55million in Britain from invasion.

As opposed to GWB allowed 911 so he could get more money for his rich pals.......oh, and get the Patriot Act.

spot on.

re: Lucan, i cant help smiling at my mam sometimes. she harps on about how "the royal family were in on it" (helping Lucan to escape) although there's no evidence, i wouldn't put it past the buggers, considering the rather nasty dastardly deeds committed by that institution since roman times. she's also on Al Fayed's side about Princess Di, as you might guess my mothers a bit of a diehard plaid cymru. i'm more "British" minded. although it was nice to see my team hammer the "saesneg" yesterday in sheffield....

Di. Hmm. I always find it ironic that the only one in the car with the brains to put on his seat belt actually survived.

Remember was about 10 years old listening to new report telling how several
communist guerillas were killed. Thought that was real mean shooting those
poor monkeys (get it - gorilla)....

That's the first one I remember hearing about, too. I was about 15 years old at the time, and it was several years after the CT first arose. I got all excited about it initially, thinking, "Wow! I know something that the rest of the world doesn't know". Obviously, that initial euphoria was short lived, because - da,m - facts and evidence reared their ugly heads.

So I'm having a look at the Loose Change forums, to see what new lunacy has flowered in 'The Lounge', and I see a thread dedicated to the extremely political act of showing off what will, one day, be the posters 911 CT memorabilia collection:

one of the things in his collection is a "deception dollar"

Round the edges of the bill are listed the usual canards of the CT delusion, but in amongst the predictable "false flag attacks" it says "Guy Fawkes".

And, lo and behold, our old friend Webster Tarpley has a Guy Fawkes false flag theory:

There are some more Guys Fawkes CTs here:

And for some perspective on how conspircay thinking really has run through history, here are some details of a conference:

and of the book produced from it:
