Solar Power Goes Organic

Looks like serious science to me - it seems to be in line with recent research (e.g. Greenbaum at Oak Ridge) on the manipulation of photosynthetic reaction centers. It's still a long way from finding commercial application, though, even if it should prove more cost-effective than more conventional technologies.

Still several years from product. That makes me wonder if it's a real breakthrough or a boost to the stock price.

They didn't seem to be claiming any breakthroughs from this project yet, if I read it right. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some funding from whatever the Italian equivalent of DOE is, though.

US scientists claim making 'efficient' solar cells

It seems they've engineered an alloy with multiple band gaps, which allows more efficient conversion of the incoming solar radiation. I gather this is a rather preliminary result, I don't know if they've actually tested it for solar panel efficiency, or whether they just created a new material and ran some numbers on it.
