Anyone else been noticing the effect of the recent solar flares on their internet connection. I have and also I noticed that I could hear it on my cordless phone as well.

What is this? I recieved an e-mail recently from aurora watch saying that the solar activity is at it's lowest point at the moment. Is one thing anything to do with the other or am I totally misguided? Again :)

Aren't solar flares what drivers of electric cars use to warn others that they are broken down?

I misread spaceweather

When I went to spaceweather last nigt I miread it(that's what I get for just skimming). They were just talking about a big sunspot not about increased activity. Sorry.

So is this sunspot supposed to be causing interference?

*Goes off to Google*

Increased flare activity CAN cause electrical disturbances - a large flare back in the 80's caused a 1000 mi long power line in Quebec to go down, fighter planes to lose communication with each other, and an oil tanker to lose navigation and crash (at least, that was the excuse they used :) ). But we are currently in the minimum of the solar activity cycle. Check out http://umbra.nascom.nasa.gov/images/latest.html for daily images of the Sun in multiple wavelength. Not a lot going on right now, it seems.
