With awful silence
the white ash of burnt hydrogen
filters down on the apprehensive populace.
Their fear is limited by the knowledge
this eruption will not last.

white water falls
breathless
amidst a host of memories impressed
upon a fleeting moment

oh no! snow is here!
Bread, milk, pet food, pizza, beer!
essentials on sale!

A winter-person's observation

Beneath the lamp-post, swirling shadows of
a million snowflakes gather as if called
to dance. The halo'd lighting from above
casts rings upon the ground; I stand enthralled,
enchanted by the tarantella cast
in grey on white. The outer rings of light
are dimmest, but the shadows there move fast
into the center, where they spin in bright
lime-light, the featured players, til they fall
at last, to earth, their shadows dissappearing;
joining with their fellow dancers, all
together, celebrating solstice nearing.
Light and snow together make such art
that cold's forgotten--this dance warms my heart.
