This was something I did not expect, and at first I dismissed it: Sniper-tourism
Apparently, during the Bosnian war, rich people from a number of countries, but mainly Italy, paid good money to go to the hills outside Sarajevo to shoot civilians.
According to investigators, groups of “sniper tourists” are alleged to have participated in the mass killings after paying large sums of money to soldiers belonging to the army of Radovan Karadžić – the former Bosnian Serb leader who in 2016 was found guilty of genocide and other crimes against humanity – to be transported to the hills surrounding Sarajevo so that they could shoot at the population for pleasure.

The Serbian president Aleksandar Vučić is rumoured to have been present at one of the military posts where this was going on.
 
It reminds me of the old rumours that there exists shooting ranges in Cambodia where rich people can shoot at live cattle, and even desperate poor who consented to being shot in order for their family to prosper. I saw a short documentary where this was investigated, but the journalists could not ascertain if it was true or not. It is the kind of claim that cannot be proven false, only true.

But it also reminds me of present-day Russia where it is likewise claimed that poor men sign up with the expectation to die, because of the big payout that will go to the family. That makes it even worse when they get shot by their officers, and the family receives nothing because the soldier is reported as having deserted.
 
Well the first association had the same kind of perpetrator, whereas the second association had the same kind of victim as the first, but nothing in common with the "sniper safari".

"A British doctor who has volunteered in hospitals in Syria for five weeks, says snipers are shooting pregnant women for a game. Dr David Nott said snipers were shooting women and children deliberately. 'It's more horrific than any other war zone I've worked in. Most civilians are caught in crossfire, they are never really caught in direct fire. It is direct fire this time' he told BBC News."
