Skeptical about skeptics
Linux users may have found that they can not log on to the skype network anymore without ungrading their software. Unfortunately, when they do, they don't have mike or sound.
It appears that Microsoft will not allow skype software that accesses ALSA to login to the network anymore (hence the need for new software). The new software will only use Pulse Audio.
Although it is possible to install Pulse Audio on linux machines, it is a difficult process to set up and likely to play havoc with existing software that uses ALSA.
Here is a forum that discusses the technical difficulties: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/slackware-14/skype-4-3-a-4175508618/
