Skeptics and morality - TAM

Did anyone get arrested, cheat on their spouse, start any fights or do anthing otherwise of a less than savory nature at The Amazing Meeting?

I thought tonight, about something I'd often encountered in chat rooms. Some evangelical will propose "if you were on a dark street would you rather run into a group of skinheads coming from a bar or a group of Christians coming from a Bible study" or some such straw man. That got me to thinking about TAM and the fact that the vast majority of attendees were atheist and agnostic. To the best of my recollection, nothing happened.

Did TAM demonstrate the underlying invalidity of yet another evangelical saw?

Well, the pub crawl didn't really happen, so that in and of itself would've eliminated most of the problems right there. Plus we were kinda in the middle of nowhere.

Admittedly Plantation is not South Beach, but I'd rented a convertible.

Did I mention my rental car was a convertible... ;)

Nah, we were too far out of the way for any type of pubcrawl. We did however, rearrange the hotel's lounge furniture every night for our little discussions.
Our bar bill was pretty impressive, but I'll bet the lounge staff was still happy to see the last of us. Those chairs were heavy!

O.k. So we have 1 count of non-malicious furniture moving and we spent lots of money. I also tipped the bartender at least a dollar for every beer I got Sunday night.

So far not so bad..

At this rate I think the most egregious we're going to get is that someone forgot to flush after their dump and left it for housekeeping.

Come on you godless heathens.. didn't anyone sacrifice any children?

We hatched a bit of a plan the other night on PalTalk. Since the drinks were somewhat spendy at the hotel lounge, we've decided to designate a "party room". Couple of coolers, a few cases....
The individual who's hosting this party room is unaware of the plan. Since we're all friends of his, we wouldn't dream of ruining the surprise.

The next time that comes up ask: " I wonder which group India Tracy would rather meet?"

It was discussed at least once, so I wonder if the Spoor of the Gideons (and of the Mormons!) suffered at anyone's hands during TAM 2003. I favor the bookmarking of atrocities.

Lets see.

1. I am sure I heard at least one person using the Lords name in vane.

2. People gave presentations on Sunday, a day or rest.

What a bunch of sinners we are.

They are not suffering, they are perfectly safe here with me... until I tire of them Mwuuuhahahahahhaha!!! :D

I guess I obeyed all of the Ten Commandments - unwittingly!

USA: yes I noticed. I wish I had an extra copy of Flim Flam to put in there!

Guilty of Deadly Sins #1 Vainglory or Pride and #2 Covetousness

I confess I gloated a bit about being in Florida while Syracuse remained buried under snow.

I also feel sinfully proud of the photo I have of me with Randi.

I coveted Girl 6's ruffled jacket.

Hey! Why do you expect consistency from me??? You wouldn't expect that from a Christian, would you? So why the different standard?

;) :D

I had to point out that you were sinking to their level. ;) I expect intelligent people like you to be logical and consistent. If you were Sylvia Browne, for example, I'd hold you to much, much lower standards.

I think the experiment is moot, as you are not controlling for the influence of Randi. All the skeptics were being "good" in order to not incur his wrath, after all. :)

Actually I think it was so we wouldn't embarass him.

But it is telling that so little "bad behavior" occured.

Didn't anyone even steal some towels?

the jacket

I too coveted the jacket...

Someone tried to pick me up (which I found totally amazing!) so maybe I could have sinned if I'd wanted to...

But, count me in on crashing a room (or honoring it with our presence, right?). Oh, make note to self, register under a false name.....

You can't sin even at the amazing meeting, cause you never know when the spanish inquisition will show up. It's not like it is ever expected.
