Mrs. Merc's Gateway Laptop is currently displaying everything rotated 90 degrees clockwise. I assume this is for some sort of display purposes, but it is annoying her, and neither of us know how to return it to being just a normal computer again.

Help?

I assume it is a simple software switch, but as I am ignorant of it, it may as well be sanskrit.

Right click outside of all icons, and examine all of your video driver settings.

Video driver settings...it was set on "rotate 270 degrees". Now it works, and my eyes are rotating back in my head.

Thanks, JJ.

Poor Mrs Merc. First she has to put up with you and then the world truly goes sideways...

This happened to me about two months ago. It's a malicious program that's doing it.

I lost everything -had to do a complete system restore. Whatever you do, don't even consider restarting in "safe mode"...whatever else the program does, it destroys your boot log & starting in safe mode will lock you completely out.

It is? I will tell her immediately! Do you know anything more about it? She runs 3 different spyware programs and antivirus checkers...

Is there any key combination she could have hit by accident that would have done the switch?

I'm sorry; I don't know. My son was playing a video game, and he hit "Okay" on what he thought was Windows error message...and the games began.

We ruined a monitor trying to turn it sideways so we could see what we were doing. I rebooted several times, ran Norton 3 times, ran the Ad-Aware & some other thing my husband has...they found nothing. I did find one file that was suspicious in the program files, but couldn't turn it off and couldn't delete it because it was running. So I got the bright idea to start in "Safe Mode", thinking that wouldn't let the program start so I could find it and delete it. But that locked us out as I said -the computer refused to reboot at all.

In the end, we lost everything.

Oh...my son said the message said something about "Sticky Keys". He was playing a game at Miniclip.com, and I haven't let him go back there since because of it.

It is possible. The cat had just walked over the keyboard, and you know how evil cats can be.

BTW, many newer LCD monitors will rotate now and you can run them in portrait or landscape mode. My Dell at work does this. Pretty cool. Works great for writing and coding. Sucks for CADD work.

Never seen one that can go 270 degrees though. Just 90 clockwise (to portrait) and back to landscape.

Somebody has to ask-

Are you sure you have it the right way up to start with?
