Just watched the shuttle launch on CNN.

That Tank-Cam is a REAL cool shot! Loved watching the boosters separate! I wonder if we'll see anything after the tank separates from the shuttle. Wouldn't mind a bit of re-entry action.

I'd buy a DVD of that!

Speaking of which, does anyone know of any compilation of REALLY COOL launch/flight/re-entry footage?

The camera dropped away w/ the fuel tank unfortunately. I love the NASA channel!

eta: I still get a knot in my stomach when they say "go to throttle-up".

That camera drop away was cool! You could see the maneuvering rockets firing on the shuttle. Wouldn't mind seeing whatever footage there was from that point in time until the camera became inoperable due to re-entry!

Ya, I know what you mean about "Go, throttle up"

The camera drop away was not "cool". Go wash your mouth with lye soap.

It was f***ing awesome...!! Away we goooooo!!!

I'm still most partial to that huuuuuuge plume of smoke and that big motherf***er of a fireball blasting from the shuttle, when it ignites. That. Is. Big!

I took note of the speed they were travelling. They went from 7000km/h to 15000 km/h in a couple of minutes. That's one big kick in the arse...

Cool videos? Check out this page. Scroll down a little. Last shuttle mission had cameras mounted on one of the SRBs - one on top looking down, and one on the bottom looking up. You can find both videos here, from a few seconds to launch all the way through sep and SRB splashdown. You get to see cool things like the shuttle flying away after seperation, and the bottom-mounted camera's final couple of minutes are from a perspective about 30 feet underwater, watching the parachute straps drift down. Goodies!

agreed

shuttle launches are awesome! a few billion dollars, seven lives, depending on millions(?) of pieces of equipment controlling a massive explosion.

how's that for reality tv?

i'd be happy to pay for a dvd with every camera angle and radio communications from a launch.

Ya! It kicks the snag out of all other reality shows put together!
