as an alternative theory to chemistry?

I mean, we all know that Evolution is just another theory, and that Intelligent Design is just as valid. Perhaps other theories that the dogmatic "scientists" call "scientific" should be challenged as well. I don't want to overturn science, I just want a fair and balanced curriculum to be taught in public schools.

So, I think that we should challenge the current chemistry "theories". I think that alchemy produces viable explanations for why substances work and what the world is made of. The periodic table of element lists way too many things that it claims makes up the substance of the universe. My table of elements only contains earth, air, fire and water. Why do we subject children to such complexity as chemistry when it's much simpler to teach alchemy?

I really do think people should start writing the Kansas Board of Education and give other alternative theories that challenge the "scientific" theories because it's only fair that they teach a fair and balanced curriculum.

And why stop at science classes. It's also aperfectly valid alternative theory that space aliens built the pyramids. It's bigotry against UFO beleivers to teach only the view that the Egyptians did it through the use of massive amounts of manpower.

And when they get to more modern history, they should remember that the 'Lone Gunman theory' of JFK's assasination is just that, a theory. And we all know that theory equals 'wild guess' so they should be required to teach every wild eyed conspiracy theory about JFK's assasination right along with the rest. Or at the very least put a sticker in the book telling the student that 'Alternate Theories' exist about the assasination.

Then there's the whole biblical "Pi equals 3" thing one can get fromt he bible to use in Math class...

Actually that's a pretty bad example of an error in the Bible, IIRC it says that the pool is 10 cubit across and 30 cubit around. That is only an error if you assume that 10 mean 10.00000 and 30 mean 30.0000. Using ten to mean fx 9,6 isn't really an error.

And what's wrong with alchemy?

Why, we probably wouldn't have gunpowder without it.

(Or did we just steal it from the Chinese?)

Great point, Bikewer. I'll be sure to include it in my letter to the Kansas Board.

As a letter it will be ignored.

Better would be for someone to bring it up at a public meeting... prefaced by a speech about how scientific knowledge that is just "theories" after all should not close out alternate viewpoints. Just when they're all on your side, then whip out the "alchemy" suggestion.

If they make the mistake of objecting based on the science of it, you can ask them to demonstrate how creationism has any more scientific evidence for it than for alchemy.

If you're lucky, you might get to throw in a defining comment about science being the study of the testable.

(has someone else said "Science is the study of the testable"? Maybe I invented a slogan)

That is true, see Stargate!

It is on TV, so it must be true!
