Has anyone ever attempted Sharansky's ideas in the real world?
Jimmy Carter claimed to be more idealistically driven but my memory is that he was a supporter of detente. In any case, his foreign policy was a failure.
The originally cold war policy of containment seems closer to Sharansky but it did not bear fruit for decades (if ever).
