I think skeptic is a better title than atheist, since too much garbage can technically be lumped as still being atheist.
 
The distinction between gods, demons and aliens can be pretty blurry. They're all mythical beings, sometimes omnipotent/scient. Scientology's creation myth uses "aliens" just like so many other religions' use gods and demons. Yup, looks to me like Scientology has entities with a lot of the same qualities as so-called theists' belief systems.
 
Lots of scientists believe in God, so the OP rests on a faulty premise.

where is the difference to any other Church?
 
Well this requires a precise definition of atheist and so is rather difficult. Broadly I would say that they believe in a lot of supernatural things including that people can become gods.

If people becoming gods means atheist then are Mormons technically atheists?

As for the other direction I don't know. As long as strong faith isn't involved and it's some vague conception of a creator, someone might suppose there could be a god and still be classified as skeptic.

I was a deist for awhile and I feel like I was a skeptic back then. I never tried to assert that there was a god and always admitted that atheism was more logical. I would debate weak arguments for atheism, but never atheism as a whole.

I remember seeing a youtube of James Randi talking about how he respected a friend who believed in god and that friend admitted that he had no good arguments for why he believed in a god, just that it made him feel better. I was like that guy.

Was that ever in doubt anyway? It's a big assumption to believe that all atheists arrived at that position via rational thought.

Maybe it's a question of degree, but even while I was nominally a Christian, I'd say I was generally very sceptical of any other paranormal claims, including those by some mainstream churches.
