Merged School Shooting in Atlanta

Hey, I've got an idea! Let's cover this story on National news 24/7 and make the perpetrator famous!

Yawn. Just list the place, number of victims, and which video game was responsible. Spreadsheet form. Current version of Excel- the old ones had a 65000 row limit.

It's obvious that the real victims here are responsible gun owners being smeared by me and Fox News.

If only people like the OP would stop posting every single time someone shoots up a bunch of kids, we could go back to fondling our weapons cache like the good guys we are.

Damn you, OP! Why do you take such delight in this?

Please read the report in the OP and explain what is sensationalist about it.

Anything else to contribute to the thread?

Please forgive me. I did not mean to imply that *your* report or the story you linked was sensationalistic.

I am talking about how I fear this story will BE covered. When I said 24/7, I thought that sorta explained what I was talking about. You know, since neither a week, nor a day has yet taken place since the incident.

I blame technology.

I blame people.

News networks are in it for the money and the ratings don't lie. If people watched TED Talks like they watch O'Reilly's stupid ass we'd be on Mars by now. But like Maynard says, people "like to watch things die...from a distance."

Can we get a General School Shooting thread please?

Not a bad idea. In the last 10 years there have been 150 deaths from school shootings in the US. As Australia is roughly one fifteenth the size of the US I would have expected 10 in the last decade. How many were there? Zero. In fact I can't find any records of anyone shot dead at a school here.

(Monash University, where two were killed, teaches adults who have left school, and does not meet the "school" definition here. But pedants can count these two if you wish).

Another day another school shooting: Price Middle School

Price Middle School Shooting: Multiple Injuries In Attack At Southeast Atlanta School

Police responded to a shooting at Price Middle School in Atlanta early Thursday afternoon, WSBTV reports.
Authorities say that multiple people, including a 14-year-old, were wounded, according to Fox News.
Police said the teen was shot in the back of the neck and immediately transported to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment, 11Alive reports. The second victim -- a teacher -- received medical attention for minor cuts and bruises.
One person is in custody, according to CBS Atlanta.

Wait, what about that statistic is out of line?

Corporate take over of news. If it bleeds it leads. The story is a money maker. A HUGE money maker. Aaron Sorkin does an admirable job of detailing the problem in his TV series The Newsroom.

My jury's still out on whether corporate- or government-controlled news is worse.

Universities are not schools in Australia (nothing like them in fact) but knock yourself out and include those two. That's two in history (that I can find) compared with 150 in just 10 years. Pretty sad commentary.
