We have lots of threads about stuff for the scholarship fund. Great. But I was under the impression that this was a TAMIII scholarship fund. Am I wrong? Is this a general scholarship fund? There is only three weeks left before the curtain rises and none of the money has been collected or commited.

Is this a general scholarship fund or am I misunderstanding things?

Hi Loon,

I've been collecting money for the TAM3 scholarship fund for the entire year. We've managed to raise enough money to send some people to the conference.

However, we still have a need to collect money until the very last minute since people are always contacting me about availability of funds.

Anyway, whenever you see threads about the scholarship fund, it will pertain to TAM3 until it's over.

thanks!

Thanks!

So the scholarship is active and is sending people to TAM already? Good news. I did not know this.

Worst case scenario, the moneys raised can be used to send people to TAM IV!

The more young people who can attend the conference, the better.

As of Friday, the count for this year's TAM was 432 registrants. There are more applications trickling in every day!

Paul!!! Remind me to cancel my trip to TAM3!!!! If that's going to be the lineup I might as well just go down the street to the Scientology Church.....

And yes, I know one terrific skepchick that will be attending thanks to the scholarship fund.

As the person who started the whole telethon/scholarship business back in late 2002 (the thread must have been pruned since I can't access it) to help get Luciana to TAM after the Brazilian Rial crashed, I feel qualified to comment on the basics.

As you can see by this thread started a week after TAM 1 that the funding effort is all year round, ending just before a TAM and starting anew soon after Randi closes it. The scope also expanded for TAM to from just Luciana to whomever might need the assistance.

The spirit of the telethon/scholarship extends beyond mere cash contributions though. Offering to share you room, buying a fellow attendee dinner or even a drink, or ferrying people around in your rental or Penn's New Beatle (thanks Moe!) are gestures that can make the difference for your fellow attendees. It can even be something as simple as donating money to JREF so they could have a pizza party for a live webcast at TAM 1.

I wasn't able to contribute financially this year because, while my bank account remained robust for most of '04, my future financial situation was uncertain enough that I need to build my cash reserves. Some of you won't need to worry about the periodic beverage or meal however...

A big thanks to you USA. And to G6!

How about thinking about donating FFMiles?
