Canadian SARS researchers say they have "turned a corner" in the hunt for a vaccine, creating two potential vaccines that could begin human trials in less than a year.

This report is very preliminary; probably too preliminary:

Animal tests will begin "shortly."

They haven't tested it on animals, let alone people yet.

That's science these days. Publish by press release. Even the reputable ones have to do it. You're right, it's likely to be at least five years (with a fair wind) before any vaccine will actually be available for use.
