S-ATA support for optical units

It still has regular ATA also.

2 x UDMA ATA 133/100/66 Bus Master IDE connectors

That's what you use for your CD/DVD

Well this box is a complete upgrade and I want to get rid of my 4x CD-writer, I have seen these nifty S-ATA cables lying unused in the last years I have bought motherboards and this time I dont want any IDE-units. I don't like the big blocky IDE-cables with hardly any mechanical protection and now there is a way to get rid of them for me. The Plextor PX-716SA/712SA is what I had in mind, the shop I'm getting it from has a little compatibility reminder in the corner saying "make sure your motherboard supports optical S-ATA units". So how do I make sure?

I think they are making sure that you have any S-ATA at all, as a large group of people who would buy that drive as an upgrade would not have any S-AtA ports if their computers are more than a 18 months old.

Here is plextor compatability list, it shows most Gigabyte boards are ok.

And according to that list, if your MB won't work you can allways drop $25 on a add on S-ATA card that will work.
