Love him or hate him, he was a driving force in talk radio for decades.

Rush Limbaugh, the monumentally influential media icon who transformed talk radio and politics in his decades behind the microphone, helping shape the modern-day Republican Party, died Wednesday at the age of 70 after a battle with lung cancer, his family announced.

Mods, feel free to relocate this thread if this isn't the place for it, but given his influence on conservative/republican thought, I though it the best place for it.

Lush Rambo! Alas, he is no more!

Course he wasn't much on the best day he ever had.

I won't be a hypocrite and say I'm sorry he'll no longer be spewing his crap. I feel sorry for his family as I'm sure they loved him but he was a POS.

Condolences to Mr Limbaugh's friends and family.

For the rest of us, let's keep our fist bumps discrete, shall we? I mean, it's fun to see cancer take one of its own, but decorum is a thing.

Nah, dude spent his whole life being a hate monger

Rest in piss.

Limbaugh provided a voice for those who were the only ones to have a voice in this country for most of our history.

He finally found a way to make the world a better place.

He really was a horrible person.

I actually liked Rush Limbaugh when he started out. He was funny, and he spent most of his time making fun of the more absurd aspects of the Democratic Party and the left wing, but that was 30 years ago.

Over the years, he stopped doing his funny bits. He was just serious all the time. He became boring. He also paved the way for people much worse then him. Without Limbaugh, there would not have been a Hannity. I have a feeling that whoever replaces him will be worse. I think Limbaugh really believed what he was saying, BS and all. I never got the impression that he was a very intelligent man. Some of those who came after just realized there was a market as long as they convincingly spewed right wing hate rhetoric without hesitation. They strike me as much smarter than Limbaugh. They're lying about a lot of what they say.

Coincidentally, I was just listening to his show with guest host Mark Steyn (sp?) yesterday, and Mark was saying that Rush was just a little under the weather but he will be roaring back in just a few days. I guess he wasn't right about that.

As good an occasion as any to post a comic that I thoroughly enjoyed more than 20 years ago that discussed in detail the impact of Limbaugh's work on the world.

I remember a Doonesbury comic from some time around the early 90s.
"What's the difference between Rush Limbaugh and the Hindenburg?"
"One's a flaming Nazi gasbag and the other is a zeppelin."

Then there was the Animaniacs short in which they were harassing a parody of Howard Stern.
"Why don't you go bother Rush Limbaugh?"
"We're afraid he'll eat us."
