SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton released the following statement concerning the CBS / National Journal Republican debate:

“Ron Paul consistently polls among the top three in the key early voting states of Iowa and New Hampshire. He is polling in double digits in most respected polls.

“Congressman Paul is ranked among the top three in fundraising results.

“Congressman Paul serves on the House Foreign Relations Committee.

“Congressman Paul is a veteran.

“And, Congressman Paul has contrasting views on foreign policy that many Americans find worthy of inquiry and discussion.

“CBS's treatment of Congressman Paul is disgraceful, especially given that tonight’s debate centered on foreign policy and national security.

“Congressman Paul was only allocated 90 seconds of speaking in one televised hour. If we are to have an authentic national conversation on issues such as security and defense, we can and must do better to ensure that all voices are heard.

“CBS News, in their arrogance, may think they can choose the next president. Fortunately, the people of Iowa, New Hampshire, and across America get to vote and not the media elites.”

Do you think that Ron Paul is being blacked out by the media?

I've seen him featured on CNN plenty of times this year. On occasion however I will notice him being skipped over in articles and news. I'm not a fan at all but it upsets me when this happens. I am also upset that his people use this for his campaign.

The CBS foreign policy debate was a disgrace. It was 90 minutes but only shown for 60 to continue their regular programming. In addition they used it as a promotional tool to advertise Scot Pelley’s Evening News program. An email that went out earlier said the lesser candidates like Bachman and apparently Paul would get fewer questions than other candidates.

Ron Paul is like the birthers, truthers and other amusing side shows.

They save him for slow news days.

I'm just thinking aloud here but I wonder if Paul's consistency is hurting him here. Maybe the media feels that the public already knows what his positions are from previous election cycles.

Take away the 9/11 truthers, gold bugs, and white supremacists and Paul has no support.

Do you think that Ron Paul is being blacked out by the media?

Yes, he is. I don't think he's actually a viable candidate, and I think he'd make an awful president, but I also don't like the way that "marginal" candidates are marginalized. I think we'd all be better off if the public got a chance to hear views outside the conventional wisdom. Sure, it's not likely the public would change its views on long held orthodoxies, but closing off debate to a preselected group of views or people is bad for "thinking".

Paul (as well as Bachmann) does have sort of a point here. If you're going to ask a bunch of people to a debate, then you need to spread the questions out and the debating time equally. If you plan to ignore them, then don't invite them to the debate. Each debate organizer (if they are privately run and funded) has the right to ask whoever they think is a valid candidate.

Bull. They think he's a sellout because he actually *gasp* believes al Qaeda did 9/11!
