America Snores When Christian Terrorist Threatens to Massacre Muslims

An ordained minister pleaded guilty to threatening to burn down a New York town full of Muslims. Where's the FBI press conference and Fox News panic?

Have you heard about the Christian terrorist Robert Doggart, who was plotting a violent attack against a Muslim-American community in New York state? Probably not, because as opposed to when U.S. law-enforcement officials arrest a Muslim for planning a violent assault, they didn’t send out a press release or hold a press conference publicizing Doggart’s arrest.

Makes sense. Christian terrorists just aren't perceived as being as big a threat as some other religious fanatics we might name--rightly so.

I guarantee that if they start to occupy the problem space somewhere between "occasional threats of violence and rare violent acts" and "raping, pillaging, and plundering their way across the middle east", Americans will sit up and take notice.

We should be glad that Christian extremists are so relatively innocuous. We should also probably destroy the Piss Christ, ban the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, and require the artists involved to issue public apologies, to help ensure that Christians remain comparatively meek. Outlawing abortion might not be a bad idea either. After all, if men like Doggart are inspired to commit acts of violence, we have only society to blame for offending him in the first place.

TBH, the only Muslim I recall who was arrested for plotting any attack in the US was Hosam Smadi, whose name I had to look up just now, and that was only because it happened in my metro-plex. And "plotting" is arguable - he thought he was actually setting off a bomb.

The other more recent cases have been actual attacks - with bombs and assault rifles - not mere plots. That tends to grab people's attention a lot more.

If Jesus tells you to slay someone, I don't see where you'd have much choice.

Wow, first reply, and already you're hitting the strawmen pretty hard. You should pace yourself.

This and this are the sort of thing Obeidallah is talking about: Muslims getting arrested before they can carry out their attacks get charged with terror-related offenses and get statements about them issued by the US Attorney General, while Christians getting arrested before they can carry out their attacks (on Muslims) get charged with "interstate communication of threats" and bond out, and no officials have made any grandiose statements about the terror plot that was foiled.

The first and second lines are my honest assessment of the reason why this arrest wasn't publicized the way some others might have been. The third and following lines were sarcasm.

Perhaps you could tell us whether you disagree with my analysis, and if so, why.

You'll get no argument from me that treating Christian terrorists more leniently than Muslim terrorists is wrong - they should all be publicly humiliated and executed.

Granted it might have changed but last time I looked the main worry of FBI vs terrorism was domestic terrorism, just like this guy , mafia and anti-federalist. In comparison terrorist event from Moslem on US soil in the last 10 years was relatively low in numbers.
And they had to scratch the bottom of the barrel IMO. Compared to that the domestic terrorism threat seems still high. Especially as election comes up.
