The Texas governor, 11 months away from the end of his record-setting tenure at the helm of the state, is sunny about a political future that could include another run for president. That decision won't come until next year, he says, but Perry insists he'll remain active in the political debate over the role of government in American life, whether he runs or not.

The Daily Show writers rejoice.

I had said before that Perry could never get elected after he acted drunk and disoriented during the campaign. However, apparently I greatly underestimated him. Others who actually live in Texas have said that he has done so many crazy things as governor that just based on those things, he has no chance of being elected. So, Perry may run but he won't get far.

Or overestimated others. Or both.

Pity us poor folks here in Texas. W., Perry, and now Gregg Abbott (is running for governor.) Abbott is the state attorney general who this week invited Ted Nugent, The Duke of Derangement, to campaign with him.

He's definitely gonna for president, but first he has to 1) Talk to his family, 2) Form an exploratory committee, and 3) ... uh....

I hear y'all might get Wendy Davis instead? Turn that place blue, or at least purple!

I'll be voting for her if she's still in the running. But I wouldn't expect TX becoming even purple for at least another generation.

Nommed.

As to Davis, I was surprised to see that she is polling only 15 points or so behind "I sue Obama so you can pay for both sets of lawyers and the judge" Abbot.

Just give it time. Within a decade, what with the demographic shifts being what they are, I wouldn't be surprised to see Texas turn purple (Link)

Incidentally, that article was written in 2012, before the GOP so gloriously shot itself in the foot - yet again - by torpedoing immigration reform for this election cycle. That kind of continued idiocy is sure to piss off Hispanic voters and drive them away from the Republican party for at least the next election cycle (likely well beyond as well).

Texas has been an even mix of liberal and conservative for decades, folks. We had a woman Democrat governor in the not-too-distant past, in case y'all have forgotten. Our cities and universities teem with masses of lefty artists, musicians, cineastes, teachers and intellectuals. We have world-class medical centers, research facilities, and a tiny little space science center you might have heard of. There are at least as many of "us" (progressives, librulls, civil rights activists, Darwinists, etc.) as there of "them" (GOP members, bankers, oil men, Creationists, etc.)... and we all somehow make it through each day without killing each other.

Y'all just don't know any of that 'cause you don't live here. ;)

And all that clearly explains the political balance on display in the Texas legislature

Sure, because we all know that a state legislature exactly represents on a 1:1 basis the goals, feelings and opinions of their constituents.

Seeing as how it is supposed to be representative of those constituents, since they - you know - elect those folks in the governor's mansion and legislature then... yeah, we kind of should expect that.

Welcome to Democracy 101 :)
