This was linked from Spaceweather.com and it just has to be shared. :D

In The Land Of The Northern Lights

It is a timelapse video of the Northern Lights. All sequences are shot in or close to Tromsø in Northern Norway.

I have spent over 6months collecting footage for this, I have shot approx 50.000 stills to choose from in making this video. A goal for me has been to try to preserve the real-time speed of the northern lights, or come as close as possible, and present it the way I experienced it, instead of the northern lights just flashing over the sky in the blink of an eye. It may work on other time-lapse videos with skies and sunsets etc, but with the northern lights in focus, it should be presented in it's true speed to reflect her beauty, imo.

This is great. I've always wanted to see the aurora. When I traveled across Siberia in January of 2008 I had hoped to get my chance, but we didn't up going as far north as I thought we were going to.

Someday I'd like to drive as far north as I can possibly drive in North America.

Beautiful. I've experienced a good show in the north of sweden. It truly is an experience. I venture to say it's almost spiritual :)

It takes dedication to see the aurora here in Bellevue (Seattle). While one can see them here a dozen times a year during the solar maximum, those nights rarely occur with a clear sky at the same time. But I have managed to see the aurora about 5 times from my house. One of the times was spectacular with the sky overheard literally looking like a flattened flashing disco ball.

The solar minimum recently ended and activity on the Sun is picking up again. I'm looking forward to seeing more interesting skies in the coming years.
