Question about the old testament......

When did the old testament get written?

Which parts?

The Old Testament was a living document for many years, with the books of various 'prophets' getting added willy-nilly to the set. Some prophets were also removed when their predictions turned out to not come to pass.

There appear to have been several sets of authors of interleaved parts of the Pentateuch(See link) , each one writing at a diffenent time.

The books themselves were written/compiled from about 1300 BCE over approximately 1000 years. The earliest ones are the Pentateuch (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy). The rest of them give a picture of Israelite history and culture until the firt part of the Second Temple era, a few centuries BCE.

Most, of not all, of the books contain material previously known by oral tradition to Israel, be it history (e.g. Genesis), poetry (e.g. Psalms) or ethical/philosophical ideas (e.g. Ecclesiastes).

I was reading one scholarly work where the writer seems to think that the Hebrew Testement was accumulated by a man named Ezra after the captivity in Babylon. There is one book by his name.

Probably after someone smoked a lot of weed... or as Moses called it, burning bush.....:czhypnotic:

I know a few reservoir engineers who would like to know exactly where that bush was. I sounds remarkably like a surface natural gas seepage.
