Question about Bigfoot guy, Robert Gimlin

I was recently watching an episode of "MonsterQuest" and saw a brief interview with Gimlin. Does anyone know anything about this guy's background? I'm curious to know what his story is, but I can't seem to find much on the net. He's quite a character; like if John Wayne became a Sasquatch Hunter.

And apparently he's never been more popular amongst die hard Bigfooters than at present. He's now even got his own private army of protectors ya know, the Gimlin Guard™. Headed up by a guy named Foghorn Leghorn™ I think. With them at his side he's allowed to be whatever he desires and they will defend him to the death regardless. To them the PGF might or might not be a hoax, but for ***** sake don't ever say Bob Gimlin is LYING.

I agree, that is a silly claim. It's almost as silly as saying you saw Bigfoot.
