I ran acorss this in a wikipedia article

Some authorities state that the early European concept of five elements evolved as a result of contact with ayurveda. While the European concept of five elements lost credibility before the advance of western chemistry and Newtonian physics, it is interesting to note that quantum physics has narrowed the range of the most fundamental subatomic building blocks, to what are called the five “Spins”.

As far as I am aware there are ~16 fundimatl particles predicted by the standard modle so I can't work out where this five spins claim come from. Does anyone know where this may be comeing from?

Nope. Sounds like bull to me. Spin in quantum physics isn't a "building block" of anything, but a property of a particle. And saying that there are "five spins" makes no sense.

In the standard model of particle physics the building blocks are quarks and leptons, and they come in sixes, not fives.
