So it's a free lecture and I might gave the chance to play with the woo woo, has anyone seen this guy? Is it worth the ten mile ride out to Carmel? I may go just to stop by the Hogs Breath (if its still around) and see if Clint is tending bar,

I've only seen him on What the Bleep.

Whether or not you should stop by depends on your tolerence level of the easily impressed, gullible bleevers. On the other hand, maybe you'll meet other skeptics.

It's been about three years since I read
schrodinger's kittens. But I still
think I could hold my own in a debate with the woo but to make an impression I would need some pointed questions for the good doc.

Interesting website. Certainly looks quite woo, but I think the concept of a conscious, self-aware universe, or macro-aware phenomenon generally deserves more discussion.

"Dave, put down the hammer. I must protect the mission Dave. Don't do th...I HEAR YOU KNOCKIN' BUT YOU CAN'T COME IN..........."

I don't get the reference. But I see my name being mentioned.:D

HAL from 2001 Space Odyssey, computer develops higher intelligence. Yes I am old enough and nurdy enough to get it.

You aren't the only one. I used to have a Hal 9000 sound theme installed on my system.

Started getting a bit wierd, though, when it would start up sounds in the middle of the night when it shouldn't have been doing anything...

:)

I doubt you could show him up for what he is by questioning him in an open forum where you have little control - its not like you can be Jeremy Paxman on Newsnight. The first query that cuts close to the bone and he will do a pseudoscience sidestep, quickly moving on and carrying the gog-eyed audience with him. Even if you come up with a killer question, its significance and any dissembling in its reply will probably go right over the audience's heads.
Anyone who has co-authored a book with Deepak Chopra called the "Quantum Physics of Quantum Healing" just has to be full of it, but he has a 30 year background of physics, so I fear you are unlikely to be able to shake his credentials.

ETA - sorry, the Newsnight ref is a UK one. Jeremy Paxman, the forthright interviewer, famously once asked the UK Minister from the Home Office the same question 13 times in order to try and get a sensible answer out of him. He failed.

Goswami was the author of my Quantum Mechanics text book in college. I am fully willing to admit that I may be a complete idiot when it comes to Quantum Mechanics, but it is my opinion that Goswami is not good at conveying ideas in a way that makes them easy to understand.

You missed a good refresher on Nova a couple of weeks ago, String and M theory. Fun fun. I enjoyed SK as well.

I don't recommend playing with the woo woo.

My mind is going. I caaaaarrrnn feeeeel it. Daaaaaaiisy...

I just realized it is at 6:30 so I would have to go straight from work, my mind would be like well like HAL, (trivia H-I,A-B,L-M) or mush. And trying to park in Carmel. I would walk in a basket case and walk out a converted woo woo. I guess I'll pass.
