QEDCon dates have been announced for next year. April 12th and 13th, at a new, larger venue in the centre of Manchester.
We are very happy to announce that QED will be returning April 12-13, 2014 for our fourth year!

After the success of last year's event - not to mention our previous years - we suspect demand for tickets in 2014 will be high, which is why we're moving to an even larger venue: the Palace Hotel, Manchester.

Our new venue is conveniently located in Manchester city centre, with a plethora of reasonably-priced accommodation options within walking distance for those not able to stay at the Palace Hotel itself. Find out more about our new venue, plus information on alternative accommodation deals.

We'll be announcing more about QED in the coming weeks, including pricing, details of our fantastic speaker line-up, and the all-important date when tickets will go on sale. But in the meantime, save the date, keep your eyes peeled, and we'll see you in Manchester in April for the biggest and best QED yet!

Ooooh I have an interesting idea, wouldn't it be fun if there was a webcast of each of the events that could be watched from the other event? I would love to be able to see what was going on at QEDCon while I am NECSS.

Good idea! We could wave to each other.

Actually I'm told QED and NECSS are discussing taking advantage of the timing to do some sort of cross-conference something-or-other.

It's actually been done before, between Skepticamp Madrid and Skepticamp Chicago on January 28, 2012. You can watch video of it at that link.

Multiple skeptic events on the same day is happening increasingly often, which is understandable given the huge growth in skeptic events since about 2009. I've been cataloguing this (as I documented in the Skeptic History workshop at TAM2013) and in my data I show 54 events in 2012 and 53 in 2013. Simple math tells you that since most of these events are on the weekend, and there are 52 weekends in a year, that overlaps are going to occur.

Later this month - on Saturday, October 26th - we're going to have a situation where four different skeptic events are going on the same day - in Utrecht, London, Little Rock and Tacoma. (That last one is a multi-day event).

Well, as usual, QEDCon was excellent. Great speakers and much fraternising in bars and curry houses. Plus, I got to drive a Tesla electric car. :)

Here's the opening video, with the MC, Paul Zenon, getting ready to start the proceedings, with cameos from Simon Singh, Jesus and Richard Dawkins.
