The Python Projectile Launcher system has been developed to utilize the U.S. Navy's patented non-lethal frangible projectile system that has been exclusively licensed to the Company for the life of the patent. The Python Projectile Launcher can easily be converted from a Pistol to the Carbine configuration in the field within a matter of minutes. The Python Pistol magazine holds 10 projectiles and the Carbine configuration contains 180 projectiles. The Python launcher has an exceptional range and accuracy, striking a 9-inch circle at distances of more than 40 feet.

Looks like a paintball gun to me.

It doesn't say exactly how it works. I'm also curious about the tubing leading to the front grip. Is that to load a CO2 cartridge?

It's nice to see more non-lethal weapons. I wish we would have had stun guns or tasers available when I was on the police force many moons ago. We had pepper spray/CS. After that it was batons and guns.

Yeah. I would assume it fires an exploding "paintball" of some kind of incapacitating chemical agent.

The propellant has got to be either CO2 or compressed air, like most paintball "guns." That's what that tube is for. Here's a similar set-up:

More from http://www.universalguardian.com/html/bus.html
Frangible projectiles filled with powdered chemical irritants are launched from specially designed devices and explode on impact, releasing its contents in a small cloud, which, depending on the chemical content, immediately causes a series of temporary disabling effects due to the kinetic impact of the round, swelling and tearing of the eyes, severe burning sensation of the skin, and respiratory distress.

Here's a non-lethal weapon the son of some friends got last Christmas.

Drop the projectile (hot-chocolate-size marshmallow) in the left end, take aim, blow through the high end of the tube on the right, shoot your baby brother's eye out. Cool, huh?

I know, I know, who gives kids guns for Christmas any more? Well, they're Texans.

Quite a few police agencies use paintball guns to fire pepper-spray or other "irritant" containing projectiles.

I've been in law enforcement for 30+ years, and would welcome a true non-lethal (or, Less than Lethal to use the latest Euphemism)weapon.

Unfortunately, nothing as yet has the desired capability of being able to engage a wide variety of opponents in a wide variety of situations effectively.
For every BG that gets knocked flat by the latest Taser, there will be one who rips the darts out and grins at you.

Our department's experience with pepper spray has been quite good, but there are a number of cases of folks who are largely unaffected.

When they develop that Phaser that you can "set to stun", I'll be first in line.

First of all......BG? Big Guy?

Second....Amen. Totally agree.

Are there any neurotoxins that break down quickly? I could see an agent that rapidly paralizes the target, but breaks down a bit later.

It would interfere with breathing and movement, but it would have to break down fast enough that is didn't interfere with heart function. I imagine heavy clothing would affect such an agent, but it would otherwise be my prefered way to drop somebody without killing them.

Or what about some sort of knockout gas ala the prisoner? How feasable woud a chemical like that (I believe such things exist) be in a weapon system?

Though various "agencies" may be cooking up somesuch, any that are effective have a high mortality rate. Look at the fiasco with the Russians and the Chechyn takeover of the concert hall.

Most (all, according to some) of the deaths were attributed to the agent used.

Hehe- the last time I used pepper-spray on a suspect, there was a student in the nearby men's room. He wouldn't come out till he was assured that the "poison gas" had dissipated.
Can you see the outcry over some nerve agent, especially post-911?

Everytime he came out I would have sprayed a little pepper spray into the air, or better yet, something innocuous like Binaca just to keep him hiding and torture him for a while.
