America Rebuilds 2
Larry Silverstein goes back on TV to explain why building 7 was pulled.

And Dustin Hoffman is in "MIHOP" mode?

Dustin Hoffman Says Bush Has Manipulated 9/11

Acclaimed screen star DUSTIN HOFFMAN has slammed US President
GEORGE W BUSH for manipulating the 9/11 terrorist attacks to facilitate
the invasion and occupation of Iraq.

The RAIN MAN actor now feels "self-conscious" about being American
because he can understand why the nation has become a focus for
resentment around the world.

He says, "I think that the administration manipulated the grief of 9/11.
They did it then and they do it now.

"Everybody knows why they wanted to go into Iraq and it had nothing
to do with weapons of mass destruction. I'm an American and it's not
a good feeling. When Americans say, 'I don't know why they hate us so
much,' that's an uneducated response. There are lots of reasons why
we're hated."

From that quote, I don't think Dustin Hoffman is saying MIHOP. He's saying that post-9/11, Bush manipulated the grief of Americans to justify invading Iraq. Which he did and continues to do.

I may translated the post at 911Blogger the wrong way
after reading the header. Did someone find the original
source where he said it?

@Lisa: Thank you for moving the thread to the right place. :)

Word subtraction!

Headline: Hoffman says Bush manipulated 9/11

Text of article: Hoffman says Bush manipulated grief of 9/11

Bolding mine.

BIIIIIIIIIIG difference there. Headline says Hoffman thinks Bush is complicit (false), while the text says Hoffman thinks Bush is a manipulator (true).

As I have often noted -loathe Bush, certain he did not cause 9/11.

Manipulating the situation presented after 9/11 like the cold-hearted slime he and his bbuddies are - no question at all that he did.

And we are all aware and pissed about that.

At what point does he explain the pull it comment? I skimmed it and none of his interview clips mention the pull it comment, that I found.

"Manipulated the grief" makes it sound like Bush picked up a hot chick at a funeral. I think "manipulated the fear" is probably a more accurate description.

That's one where I'll give shrub the benefit of the doubt and give him at least three manipulates : fear, grief and hate.

All politicians are manipulators. AL Gore would have manipulated grief to get whatever he wanted.

That being said fear was being manipualted.

Why should anyone hang on a Hollywood actor's assessment of a political situation anyway? These are people paid to say words written for them by someone else.

I agree with the sentiment, but I don't see why it has more weight for coming coming from Dustin Hoffmann.

Not all of them. Some became famous improvising their own lines. They are more important because they are rich and famous. Yes Robin Leech makes them important.

I stand corrected, firecoins! :o

I agree that Hoffman is not saying MIHOP, he's not even saying LIHOP. He's saying that the Bush administration took the shock of the 9/11 attacks to propel their plan to invade Iraq. The only thing even slightly controversial about that statement is whether the administration wanted to invade Iraq before 9/11 anyway. I think it's likely that they didn't, but when 9/11 happened they wanted to do something to smack the Arabs and look like a hero, so they naively figured they could sweep into Iraq, quickly oust Saddam, and then the Iraqis would throw a ticker-tape parade for their yankee liberators. I really think they thought this.

And why did that article describe Dustin Hoffman as "The RAIN MAN actor"? That seems kind of bizarre to me. Like describing Tom Hanks as the CAST AWAY actor. It kind of minimizes his long career.

According to an interview on NPR a bit under two years ago with a gentleman(sorry, I don't know his name but given I was driving home mid-afternoon it was the Terry what's-her-name show but she was not on and interview was done by the guy who often subs for her) who had worked as an advisor with the Shrub people, they believed in that absolutely because of their intense belief in aspects of our government systems and their inablity to believe anyone would not jump at the chance to operate like us. He had tried and failed to convince them they were not totally correct.
