As previous TAM attendees know, the best thing about TAM is the connections made. Most of these are friendships, but new contacts with people sharing expertise or activist or professional interests has led to important outreach projects post-TAM. Case in point is last year's Canadian meet up, which created momentum resulting in the fabulous Skeptic North blog (http://www.skepticnorth.com/), and numerous op-ed pieces in major Canadian newspapers.
I want to see more of this at TAM, and so am taking the initiative to encourage and facilitate informal networking/community building meet ups. Some of these are already planned, both as part of the formal agenda and outside of it, i.e., official TAM sessions for medical researchers and educators, but there are a lot of obvious groups that could benefit from getting to know each other/sharing contact information. Immediate examples that come to mind include biologists, geologists, statisticians, active skeptical investigators (e.g., ghost hunters, etc.), computer programmers, graphic designers/artists, members of religious communities, sex educators, school board members, etc.
I propose that anyone interested in organizing one of these thematic meet ups post in this thread volunteering to do so (I will also ensure it is posted to the informal events calendar already up and running elsewhere on this site), and explaining the theme, and date/time/location (if known). *I would like to keep this thread otherwise clear of comments to make the information easy to access.* Since locations for meet ups planned for hotel rooms cannot be confirmed until check in, I will organize a board at registration where themes, times, and locations can be advertised (I have already spoken to the JREF regarding this).
To get the ball rolling, I will organize a meet up for PALEONTOLOGISTS/GEOLOGISTS, on Saturday at 7 pm (location TBA, i.e., probably my room).
Hope others will take the lead and get the connections made!!!

P.s. Can we keep this thread serious, please? Pretty please?
