Programs to filter out Websites

Who knows of a good program to filter out websites that I do not want my children to be able to access. I found something called safesurf but I can't get it to work correctly it either sems to filter everything out or nothing .

I don't know for sure about programs, but by using Firefox and the extension called Adblock Plus, you can help to eliminate the ads that link to a large number of such sites.
That's a good place to start, since you can also use this extension to manually block ads as well.

i think he's looking to block entire websites, not just ads.

Yeah, I was just suggesting that he also block the popups and links that send you to bad websites in the meantime.

I would not rely on a piece of software to do the job of upbringing and educating kids regarding the internet. These filters might work, and they might not. Kids can often figure out how to circumvent these filter programs. And if they can't, a classmate will tell them. The internet is not made for kids, imho. Actually, it would be better to not let children surf the internet unsupervised.
