Prediction for the coming Eclipse:

It makes sense that the aliens use the cover of eclipses as opportunities to perform their customary activities undetected. In that case we should expect some mutilated cattle, disconcerted pilots, unexplained scorch marks, messages of peace delivered via unreliable witnesses, and maybe a few abductions/probings.

I suspect that "missing time" experiences will be particularly common, especially among people waiting for hours for totality with their coolers full of adult beverages during the heat of midday.

Governments use the remote nature of small sightings to dismiss them.

If E.T's 'wanted' to be known they'd take the stage when many people are all looking skyward, as to bypass government denial...just a hunch.

Assuming you believe even 20% of this lark, then UFO's appear every other week, and don't seem to mind whether they're "known" about or not.

"Bypass government denial?" Is this something they're aware of? Fascinating.
 
He may have a point. In a culture where more and more people are buying into staggering stupidity like the flat earth movement, I'm sure there will be drooling troglodytes who will insist that they see all sorts of fantastic things. Why struggle to understand something genuinely amazing that doesn't really have anything to do with you when you can wish into being something that makes you feel especially important and gifted?
