Pre-TAM8 Activity Interest List

The following is a new and improved edition of the Pre-TAM8 activity list thingy I started in one thread. I feel it is worth starting a new one for a few reasons:

  • The last one did not attract enough attention, as it was buried deep into posts.
  • This one is more complete, and more organized.

Its purpose is to measure the interest level of each of these activities and or shows. This is NOT an official list of pre-TAM activities, as there is no guarantee any of them are going to happen.

And, listing yourself here does not really obligate you to participate, either.

NOTES ABOUT SKYDIVING-RELATED THINGS:
The skydiving related activities may have health, weight, age, and other sorts of restrictions. So, you might want to look into those, if you are questionable in some way about them. Some of these activities may require that you not drink any alcohol at least eight hours prior to the jumping.

If we do end up doing the real sky diving, I do not know which company we are going to go with, yet. There seems to be at least three of them, or so, to choose from. Someone, possibly myself, will have to conduct research to figure out which would be the best one. No experience will be necessary. We will only go with a company that offers diving for first-timers. (I would be a first-timer, myself, in fact.)

URLs for three possible sky diving companies:
http://lasvegasskydivers.com/first-skydive.html
http://skydivelv.com/first_time_divers.html
http://sincityskydiving.com/index.html
There could be others.
If anyone has recommendations, I would like to hear them!

Indoor "Skydiving" takes place in a vertical wind tunnel, in a facility located on Convention Center Dr., between The Riviera and The Wynn. (Somewhat close to where the Stardust used to be.)

SkyJump is a controlled free-fall off the side of the Stratosphere tower. For some reason, this activity is deemed perfectly legal and safe.

NOTES ABOUT SHOWS:
There is nothing really to say, here, that I can think of. I am sure everyone can handle sitting in a seat for the length of whatever shows we see. It is unlikely that you will even need to wear a helmet... though sometimes one might come in handy for the Blue Man Group.

I am including Penn & Teller, because of the unfortunate cancellation of JREF's official discounted plans, due to scheduling conflicts and such.

NOTES ABOUT COSTS:
Approximate costs are shown, for general reference purposes only. Keep in mind that they could be higher, if extras are added or prices are raised. The skydiving-related ones will charge extra for photos and/or video of the activity. An advance deposit might also be required.
They could be lower, if we manage to get a group rate, or other discounts we can find.
I do not think these prices include taxes.

I did NOT include the cheapest seats for some of the shows. (Would you really want them?!)

I have included links to official web sites, for most of these things. But, not the first one, for reasons noted above.

More Important notes may follow in subsequent posts!

INSTRUCTIONS: Paste these along with the table, if you add to it.
For each activity indicate if you are interested in it. Write "yes", or "no", or some variation of "maybe". Use capital letters to indicate particular enthusiasm. For example, "YES" means you are very much more interested in doing this, than a "yes" would indicate. "No" means you might change your mind, if someone offered you a lot of money to do it. "NO!" means "Ugh! Not even if I get paid!"
You can add more columns, if you think of something worthy.
Read the opening post for legal disclaimers and other misc. information.

I would be much more interested in the shows than the skydiving, because of weight and health issues.

As to the shows. I have seen P&T, and BMG but would be willing to see them again. I am not particulary interested in Viva Elvis or David Copperfield, but would love to see O, Ka or any of the cirques (I have seen Mystere and Love but would not object to seeing them again

Both Mystere and The Beatles: LOVE were good, fun shows, worthy of the strip. Don't get me wrong. But, in my humble opinion, both Ka and "O" were superior in their over-the-top excellence. (Though, some tastes may differ.)

Just curious. Anybody know what is playing at the Wynn in the theatre that used to house Ave. Q and Spamalot?

Wowbagger--you have missed the most important snow of them all, but I understand why you might have left it out, because it is during TAM and not before. Mr. Rich Little is performing at the Cannery casino in Las Vegas for one night only, Saturday July 10, at 8:00 p.m.

Somehow, I imagined this thread would be more popular.
What, do you suppose, is the hold up?

Fear of Falling.

That, and the way you've set up the table makes it harder to add new activities. Rotate it by 90 degrees!

Fear of Falling.
Not all of these things involve falling. I left the word "falling" out of the title, for that reason.

That, and the way you've set up the table makes it harder to add new activities. Rotate it by 90 degrees!
Then it would just be more difficult for anyone to add their names.

Tables are, in general, difficult to work with, in this system.

May I suggest that you store the table in a Google spreadsheet and just post a link to it?

I don't suppose anyone going to TAM also trains brazilian jiu jitsu? Marc Laimon's gym Cobra Kai is fairly close. I can't link since I have < 15 posts but you can google if you train jits I would love to get down there.

Didn't Mr Miyagi kick his ass?

So far, we got four potential folks for SkyJump and Indoor "Skydiving", three potentials for real skydiving, and a few "mehs" for most of the shows. Though, I suspect at least a few of us will see BMG, and others will see P&T.

If you don't like working with the chart, just LIST what you're interested in, and I will pop you into the chart, myself, whenever I get to it.

Some of these things we might want to reserve early. So, I'd like to see the how the interests go, now, if it's not too much trouble. Thanks!

There are soooooooooooooooooo many BJJ gyms in Las Vegas, they're a dime a dozen. My favorite, and still the most popular, is John Lewis's J-SECT near the Rio. I trained there Circa 1999. Got kinda bored with it and focused on school studies. Still friends with some of the trainers.

When you're in Vegas, just throw a rock; wherever it lands, there'll be a BJJ gym.
