I was thinking this morning about nations where power is consolidated in one person. Absolute power. Iraq under Hussein, Cuba under Castro, North Korea under headscratcher...
There are many others. And these guys can do whatever they please within their own borders. Use chemical weapons on their own people, control the media so no news of the outside world gets in, arrest people off the street and torture them and make them disappear. Even their family members (sons/brothers) get in on the good times, raping and robbing at will. Toss the dead carcass out on the balcony, shoot a few live rounds from their sidearm over a cheering crowd in celebration, and call it a day.
Imagine a conversation between a citizen of one of these countries and an American. Imagine the American explaining how one of our presidents was recently almost toppled because he received oral sex from a woman not his wife.
No. Because he merely lied about receiving oral sex from a woman not his wife. Under oath. He was actually brought before the law and made to swear whether or not he received oral sex. And then when he lied, he was impeached.
Would they believe it? Here we are, the most powerful nation on earth, and our leader is held accountable for every act, not only public, but private, too.
No matter how you feel about Clinton or Bush or the war in Iraq or whatever, you have to admit there is something wonderful about America.
